Muye Yu
Muye Yu is a composer from Beijing. Based in Los Angeles, she pursued her master's degree in screen scoring at USC and is currently a PhD candidate in Composition at UCLA, studying with Richard Danielpour. Previously a student of Bob Badami and William Wai Lap Wu, Muye has done dozens of dance shows, films, advertisements, and games as a composer and has also worked as a music director in theater.
Her composition inspiration draws from the oriental elements, blending with the palette of sound. Muye is currently working on a documentary, a drama, and a KongFu film, and her new orchestral piece is planning to be released this summer in 2024.
Her work, East of the Moon, draws inspiration from the use of fifths of "Glacier" from Three Passions for Our Tortured Planet. It combines Eastern elements with thoughts from traditional Chinese ink painting. The recomposition expresses the subtle shifts in colors that reflect the harmonious connection between humans and nature, and hopefully can serve as a musical representation that evokes people's reminiscence and pursuit of a beautiful environment of “Our Tortured Planet.”
