Chenny Gan
Celebrated for her virtuosity and adventurous playing, pianist Chenny Gan has appeared in performance and teaching engagements in over a dozen countries on three continents, most recently in China, Germany, and the United States. She holds degrees from Wesleyan College, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and the Doctor of Music Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Southern California. Currently Chenny is Associate Professor and Director of the Graduate Program in Music at Wesleyan College (Macon, Georgia, USA).
As an artist, Chenny seeks to explore new territories in all areas of performing, intensely focused on making the concert experience more fun and interactive for audiences. She loves to collaborate with others in various styles and genres of music, including jazz, free improvisation, classical, and pop, often performing music in unlikely settings and combinations. As soloist she has performed with orchestras of the Pacific Symphony, Macon Symphony, University of North Carolina Symphony, Atlanta Community Symphony, Kammerorchester Markt Schwaben, and the Cantus Festival Symphony in Salzburg, Austria. Her work mentoring young musicians has brought success in places as diverse as the inner-city neighborhoods of Los Angeles to New York's Carnegie Hall.
For her myriad accomplishments, Chenny’s biography has been featured in Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who in American Education. Dr. Gan’s stellar teaching was recognized nationally when she was named on the "40 Under 40" list of the best young professors in the U.S., selected by NerdScholar.com. She has also been awarded the Outstanding Teaching Award by the United Methodist Board of Education. She strives every day to learn something new and lead a worthwhile life filled with expression, purpose, and compassion.
