Pablo Marquine

Pablo Marquine is a researcher, composer, creative and sensitive pianist, who is internationally recognized. He began his studies at the piano and the age of 5, and he had the opportunity to study in renowned musical institutions in Brazil, such as the School of Music of Brasília (CEP-EMB), where he studied Classical Piano, and the University of Brasília, where he got a Bachelor's degree in Piano, a Bachelor's degree in Composition, and a Master's degree in Musicology. Currently, he is finishing a Ph.D. (Philosophical Doctor) in Historical Musicology, at the University of Florida, USA.

Pablo Marquine joined the Music School of Brasília (CEP-EMB) at the age of 11. One year later, he started his pianos studies under Aglaia Souza’s teaching, which he graduated in the class of renowned pianist Alda de Mattos. In the first year, he had the opportunity to interpret some preludes by Claudio Santoro, a moment in which, passionate about his music. He received intense music experience, and he had the opportunity to study Harmony and Counterpoint with Marden Maluf, Instrumentation and Orchestration with Dr. Lincoln Andrade, Demétrio Bogéa among others. As a prominent student of the present institution, he was invited to participate as a soloist in the main events related to the piano, highlighting the ‘International Villa-Lobos’ Week’ and the ‘International Chopin Week’. He was also invited by the Maestro Levino de Alcântara to perform the Concerto em C Major for piano and orchestra by Muzio Clementi.

Pablo Marquine began his studies at the University of Brasilia at the age of 17, when he started the Bachelor of Composition, which he later graduated in the class of Dr. Jorge Antunes. Two years after joining the Composition course, Pablo Marquine entered the bachelor’s degree in Classical Piano, at the Music Department of the University of Brasília, in the class of renowned pianist Dr. Vítor Duarte, where he later graduated in the class of M. André Frazunciewitz. During the years of study at this educational institution, his capacity as a musician was expanded to contact a conductor, under the guidance of Dr. David Junker and the creation of the Duo Brasiliano, under the guidance of Beatriz Magalhães Castro and André Sinico.

The flute-piano duo was considered one of the best of their generation, along with flutist Sammille Bonfim, which was a finalist and awarded in chamber music competitions. During his music undergraduate, Pablo Marquine worked in an internship at Claudio Santoro’s Correspondence Archive, which later became an inspiration to deeply investigate Claudio Santoro’s piano works in his master's research.

In the Master's degree in Musicology, Pablo approached both about the musicological and piano performance of Claudio Santoro's solo piano works. The main aim was to understand, through each aesthetic moment of the composer, how Santoro produced an effect of meaning and sense in his works through topic theory. At the same time, Pablo Marquine had the opportunity to publish unprecedented editions of Santoro’s works for piano.

At the University of Florida, Pablo Marquine has graduated in the PhD in Historical Musicology, under Dr. Silvio dos Santos and Dr. Welson Tremura mentorship, advisor and co-advisor, respectively, presenting in the majors international conferences in the field in the United States, Portugal, England, Spain, and other countries. Pablo doctoral thesis is entitled "Claudio Santoro, Música Viva, and the Emergence of German Modernism in Brazilian Music" and it presents and unprecedented view about how Brazilian modern avant-garde happened through Santoro's development of music language. Pablo has also graduated in Dr. Hee Jung Kang's piano cognate studio. Currently, Pablo has initiated a Solo Piano Complete Work recording homage to Brazilian composers, disseminating Brazilian music at the national and international levels and he is preparing his first book in the musicology field about the interconnections between Politics and Music Aesthetics in Brazilian Modernism.
