Katya Kramer-Lapin
Charismatic pianist and recording artist Katya Kramer-Lapin has made concert appearances at the UNESCO Headquarters (Paris, France), the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (Washington, DC), as well as solo and chamber concerts in major halls in Taiwan, Russia, and many European countries. Her chamber collaborations include concert appearances with the soloists of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as world-renowned recitalists and chamber musicians. Katya’s recordings have been broadcasted on the National Public Radio. One of her recent projects is the upcoming release of her debut digital album, showcasing works by romantic composers of the 20th century as well as music of living composers.
Katya hails from Moscow, Russia. At the age of 5, she entered the Gnessin School of Music, the professional institution for young, gifted children. Katya appeared at the Moscow Conservatory Hall at the age of 13. Immediately after her graduation, Katya was granted a scholarship to study in Cologne, Germany at the Hochschule Fur Musik. During her concert tour in the US in 1997, Katya was invited to attend Oberlin College Conservatory on a full scholarship. Upon her graduation at Oberlin in 2003 Katya was invited to do her graduate work (Masters, Artist Diploma, the terminal degree in music/piano) at Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music. During her year in Indiana (Bloomington), Katya held the position of a part-time Assistant Professor of Music and Collaborative Pianist at DePauw University School of Music. She is a winner of the “Forum of Young Pianists”competition in Athens, Greece and the Rudolf Serkin Award (Oberlin College, Oberlin OH).
One of Katya’s passions is the arrangement and performance of piano-transcriptions. Katya’s recent solo engagements represent various important works of this genre, which allows the piano to represent the whole orchestra. In addition to her solo career, Katya enjoys being a co-founder of “Duo Amabile,” a violin-piano duet with her husband Matvey Lapin. The duo performs extensively live and livestream throughout the United States. They have four children and live in Cary, North Carolina.
